TradeJournal Edge Documentation

TradeJournal Edge Documentation covers setup, dashboard use, imports, screenshots, filters, licensing, and common fixes. Use this page as a task-based reference so you can get configured quickly and come back to the exact section you need later.

TradeJournal Edge runs inside WordPress, so if you need official WordPress details beyond this guide, use the WordPress site as the source of truth for platform behavior.

1. Install and Open TradeJournal Edge

Install

  1. In WordPress, go to Plugins > Add New > Upload Plugin.
  2. Select the TradeJournal Edge ZIP package.
  3. Complete the upload and activate the plugin.

Open the Plugin

After activation, open TradeJournal Edge from the WordPress admin menu.

Recommended First Launch Check

  • Confirm the dashboard loads normally.
  • Confirm the License screen shows your current status.
  • Confirm the Trades area is visible and ready for journal entries.

2. Before You Start

Recommended First-Run Checklist

  1. Decide whether you want to keep the journal private or show selected views publicly.
  2. Create the pages you want to use for the journal dashboard.
  3. Add the shortcode to the page you want to display.
  4. Save your settings.
  5. Open the dashboard and confirm the filters and stats are working.

Important: some settings only take effect after you save them.

3. Dashboard Overview

The Dashboard is the main working area for monitored journal entries.

What You Can See

  • Trade
  • Setup
  • Account
  • PnL
  • Status
  • Date
  • Instrument
  • Side
  • Screenshots
  • Executions

Trade Settings Panel

The dashboard panel is the place to review trade settings, filters, and display options.

Use it when you need to check stats, switch display mode, narrow the journal, or review a specific trade.

4. Trade Fields and Tags

TradeJournal Edge uses trade fields and setup tags to keep trade review organized.

A Trade Can Include

  • Trade title
  • Setup tags
  • Account assignment
  • Side
  • Date and time
  • PnL
  • Notes
  • Screenshots
  • Execution rows

Recommended Workflow

  1. Create a trade entry.
  2. Add the setup and account.
  3. Attach screenshots if needed.
  4. Save the trade.
  5. Review it later from the dashboard or calendar view.

Keep It Clean

If you want the same journal layout across multiple trades, keep your naming and setup labels consistent. That makes filtering much easier later.

5. Frontend Journal Dashboard

Use the included shortcode to display your journal on any WordPress page:

[tradejournal_edge]

The dashboard can include:

  • Summary stats
  • Total trades
  • Win rate
  • Total PnL
  • Month view calendar with selected-day detail panel
  • Month/all-time stats toggle
  • Filterable trade table
  • Screenshot viewing
  • Dark and light display modes

Frontend filters can include:

  • Instrument root
  • Contract
  • Setup
  • Account for authorized users
  • Long or short side
  • Win, loss, or breakeven status
  • Date range

6. Calendar View

The calendar view shows the month grid, the selected-day detail panel, and the stats header together on one screen.

The calendar view is useful when you want to review trades by day and jump straight into the selected session.

7. Import NinjaTrader CSV Exports

TradeJournal Edge includes an admin import flow for NinjaTrader CSV exports.

The import process is simple:

  1. Upload your CSV file.
  2. Review or adjust the field mapping.
  3. Import the trades into WordPress.

The importer can recognize common NinjaTrader-style columns such as:

  • Instrument
  • Market position
  • Entry time
  • Entry price
  • Exit price
  • Quantity
  • Commission

Rows can be grouped into one logical trade when they belong to the same entry, which helps keep partial exits, runners, and multiple fills organized under a single journal entry.

8. Screenshots and Trade Notes

Screenshots are stored using the normal WordPress media library, so you do not need a separate file system or external storage workflow.

Keep trade notes in a dedicated plain-text field while leaving the default WordPress editor out of the trade workflow.

Each trade can include:

  • Detailed notes
  • One or more screenshots
  • Setup tags
  • Account assignment
  • Structured execution rows
  • PnL and date/time details

This makes TradeJournal Edge useful for both quick trade logging and deeper review sessions.

9. TradeJournal WP Migration and Upgrade Path

If you are coming from TradeJournal WP, TradeJournal Edge is the upgrade path for a more structured WordPress trading journal workflow.

The migration tool is available in WordPress admin under TradeJournal Edge > Tools. Use the same-site migration option to move existing TradeJournal WP data on the current WordPress site into the TradeJournal Edge format so you can keep reviewing trades with the newer dashboard, filters, screenshots, execution rows, stats, and calendar view.

Before migrating, make a current WordPress backup and confirm that your existing TradeJournal WP data is still available on the same site. After migration, review a sample of trades to confirm dates, PnL, screenshots, notes, setup labels, and execution rows are showing the way you expect.

Use this path when you want to upgrade an existing TradeJournal WP installation to the current TradeJournal Edge plugin on the same WordPress site.

10. Move Journals Between WordPress Sites

TradeJournal Edge includes plugin-owned trade package tools for exporting and importing journal data between WordPress sites.

Trade packages can include:

  • Trade title and notes
  • Accounts
  • Contracts and instrument roots
  • Side and PnL
  • Trade date
  • Executions
  • Setup names
  • Screenshot metadata

Duplicate imports are skipped where possible to help avoid accidental double-importing.

11. Who This Is For

  • Traders who want a private journal on their own WordPress site
  • NinjaTrader users who want to import CSV trade history into WordPress
  • Traders who review performance by setup, side, date range, account, and instrument
  • Traders who want screenshots and notes connected to each trade
  • Traders who prefer owning their data instead of relying only on broker reports or spreadsheets

TradeJournal Edge is not for traders looking for:

  • A NinjaTrader 8 indicator
  • A NinjaScript add-on
  • Chart Trader buttons
  • Automated entries or exits
  • Trade signals
  • Account-level risk controls inside NinjaTrader

12. Licensing

The License tab supports built-in activation and status refresh.

Activation Flow

  1. Copy the Machine ID.
  2. Contact support.
  3. Paste the license key you receive.
  4. Click Activate.
  5. Use Check anytime to refresh the current status.

Machine ID Reference

You can also find your Machine ID in WordPress admin or your product email.

13. Common Fixes

The dashboard is blank

Check that you added the shortcode to a WordPress page and saved the page.

Trades are not showing

Confirm the trades were imported correctly and that your filters are not too narrow.

The layout looks wrong

Try switching the display mode and refresh the page.

CSV import feels off

Check the field mapping before importing and verify the source CSV columns.

The account is not inheriting the setup you expected

It probably has custom values. Review the settings and restore the defaults if needed.
