Documentation

PAT Chart Trader Documentation

PAT Chart Trader Documentation covers installation, the Basic and Pro editions, licensing, placing and managing orders, the order hotkeys, ATM presets, the order preview and order lines (Pro), the pre-send risk checks with PAT Risk Manager, panel messages, common fixes and the one-click uninstall. Use it as a task-based reference: get set up once, then jump back to the section you need.

1. Install PAT Chart Trader

Requirements

NinjaTrader 8 on Windows (developed and tested on 8.1.8.2). PAT Risk Manager is optional: without it, the panel trades normally but enforces no limits.

Install

  1. In NinjaTrader, go to Tools > Import > NinjaScript Add-On and select PATChartTrader.zip.
  2. Restart NinjaTrader.
  3. Open a chart and show Chart Trader, either from the chart toolbar button or with right-click > Chart Trader.

Where to Find It

PAT Chart Trader is an add-on, not an indicator, so there is nothing to add chart by chart. Wherever NinjaTrader’s Chart Trader is shown, the panel takes the place of NinjaTrader’s own order controls, and it follows tab switches. The header shows your edition and the version (for example Pro · v1.6.2) and the chart’s instrument. Change the chart’s instrument and the panel trades the new one.

The full panel (Pro): account, position card, sizing, ATM and ATM presets, entries, exits and the risk-check badge.

2. Basic and Pro

PAT Chart Trader comes in two editions. It is one download: your license key decides which edition you have.

  • Basic is the full chart trader: everything in this guide except the three sections marked Pro, including the risk checks with PAT Risk Manager.
  • Pro adds ATM presets, the order preview and order lines, with their tools to split, combine, resize and attach orders to an indicator.
  • Features your edition doesn’t include are simply not shown: no locked buttons and no upgrade messages in the panel.
  • The panel’s header shows your edition before the version: Basic · v1.6.2 or Pro · v1.6.2.
  • Upgrading keeps your key. Once your key is moved to Pro, the panel picks it up at its next license check (within 5 minutes), or at once with Check now in the Settings window. No reinstall, no restart.
  • A trial key has everything in Pro.

3. First-Run Checklist

  1. Open Settings from the panel’s footer, paste your license key and click Activate.
  2. Pick the account you want to trade from the Account list.
  3. Choose an ATM template, or None.
  4. Set your usual quantity.
  5. If you use PAT Risk Manager, check that the Risk checks on · PAT Risk Manager badge shows for that account.
  6. Place a test order on a Sim account before trading live.

4. Account, Quantity and ATM

Account

Pick the account from the list. NinjaTrader’s own (hidden) Chart Trader account follows your choice, so the order and position lines on the chart always belong to the account shown in the panel. (With Pro’s order lines on, PAT Chart Trader draws those lines itself.)

The panel only ever trades the account its Account box shows. After a restart it waits for your saved account to connect instead of picking another one.

Quantity

  • Click the box, type a number and press Enter (or Esc) to finish. While the box has focus, your keystrokes go to the panel, not to NinjaTrader’s instrument selector or hotkeys.
  • The Up / Down arrow keys and the − / + buttons step by one.
  • The ▾ button opens a size list (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 40, 50, 75, 100, 150, 200). One click sets the size.

The size list opens from the ▾ button next to the quantity box.

ATM

The ATM box is NinjaTrader’s own ATM selector, working exactly as it does in NinjaTrader’s Chart Trader:

  • None, any saved ATM strategy template, or Custom to set stops and targets for this trade in NinjaTrader’s ATM Strategy Parameters window (where you can also save them as a new template). Our ATM strategy guide walks through every setting.
  • Right-click a template in the list to Edit or Remove it.
  • Choosing a template sets the quantity to its total (a “2 contracts” template sets 2). You can still change the quantity afterwards.

5. ATM Presets (Pro)

A row of buttons under the ATM selector, each holding an ATM template, so you switch ATM and size in one click.

  1. Save: choose an ATM in the ATM selector, then click an empty +. The preset now holds that ATM.
  2. Use: click a preset. The ATM selector switches to its ATM and the quantity to the template’s size, exactly as if you had chosen it in the selector. A preset never sends an order.
  3. Read it at a glance: each button shows a name over the size, stop and target in ticks, for example 3·12/24t (3 contracts, 12-tick stop, 24-tick target, from the template’s first bracket). 1·8t SL means a stop with no target. A preset holding None reads No ATM / plain.

The preset you are using has an amber edge. If two presets hold the same ATM under different names, only the one you clicked is marked.

The Right-Click Menu

The first line names the preset and its ATM. Then:

  • Replace with <ATM>: saves the ATM chosen now over this preset (on an empty slot: Save <ATM> here).
  • Rename…: a short name of your own, up to 12 characters. The Rename window also has Use the ATM's name.
  • Use the ATM's name: back to the template’s name in one click (shown on a renamed preset).
  • Clear: empties the slot.
  • Show two rows (8 presets) / Show one row (4 presets). Presets in the second row are kept while it is hidden.

Good to Know

  • With a position open, a preset changes the ATM for your next entry only; the running ATM keeps its stop and target. The message line says so.
  • A Custom ATM can’t be saved to a preset, because it isn’t a saved template. Save it as a template in NinjaTrader’s ATM Strategy Parameters window first.
  • If a template is deleted or renamed in NinjaTrader, its preset is struck through and reads missing; clicking it explains instead of choosing. Right-click to replace or clear it.
  • Presets are kept per instrument (ES, MES, NQ and so on), like the rest of the panel’s settings.

6. Order Preview (Pro)

Rest the mouse on Buy or Sell Market, or on a Join button, for a moment: the chart shows what a click would place, as dashed lines. Nothing is sent until you click.

  • Amber: the entry. A market order shows the ask (buying) or the bid (selling) marked ≈, since it fills at the market.
  • Red: the stop, labelled with its contracts, points and dollars (Stop 3 · −4.00 pt · −$600.00), or ticks if you choose Distances in ticks. Brackets with the same stop share one line.
  • Green: each target (T1 2 · +3.00 pt · +$300.00, T2 1 · +7.50 pt · +$375.00).
  • A card at the top right (bottom right when the lines are up there) sums it up: the order and its ATM, the risk, reward and R:R, and PAT Risk Manager’s answer (Allowed by PAT Risk Manager, or the reason it would refuse or cut the order). Nothing is sent to ask it.

While Dragging

While you drag a chip over the chart, the same lines follow the mouse, so you see the stop and targets before you let go.

What It Shows

The preview shows what would really go out: a size PAT Risk Manager would cut shows the smaller order, a refused order shows its entry in red with the reason, and an order against your position shows the close, without the ATM. Moving the mouse away or clicking removes it.

Turning It Off

Right-click Buy or Sell Market and click Preview orders on hover. The choice is kept per instrument.

Good to Know

  • The stop and targets are drawn for ATMs set in ticks (NinjaTrader’s default). An ATM set in price, percent or currency shows the entry only.
  • With None as the ATM, the card says no stop or target will be placed.
  • The preview needs market data, as drag-to-chart does.

7. Order Lines (Pro)

PAT Chart Trader can draw the chart’s order and position lines itself, in place of NinjaTrader’s:

  • One tag per price, its line running from the tag to the price axis, like NinjaTrader’s own: a badge, the size, how far it is, and what it’s worth. Orders of the same kind at the same price share a tag, with their sizes added.
  • An ATM’s stops and targets are badged S1, S2 and T1, T2, numbered from your entry outward, with how far from your entry they are and what a fill there would make on your position (S1 8 −3.75 pts | −$1,500.00). Stops are dashed. Green is a buy or a target, red is a sell or a stop.
  • An entry order is badged with its type (BUY LMT, SELL STP, BUY MIT and so on) and shows how far it is from the last price (−1.50 pts from last).
  • Your position in amber: LONG or SHORT, the size, and the open P&L in points and dollars.
  • Where the tags sit: 800 px left of the price axis by default. Right-click the Account row, Tags from the price axis, to choose 400 to 2000 px. One setting for every chart.

Long 10 with a 2-target ATM: S1, T1 and T2 with their size, distance and dollars.

Moving and Cancelling Orders

  • Drag a tag up or down to move its orders. A dashed copy follows with the new price and how far it moved (7842.00 · +2.00 pt). Release to send the change, or press Esc to cancel the drag.
  • A stop (or an MIT) can’t be dragged through the market, where it would fill at once: the copy turns red and says why, and nothing is changed. A limit can, and then fills, as with NinjaTrader’s lines.
  • Moving an ATM’s stop or target keeps the ATM managing it.
  • Click a tag’s × to cancel its orders. Cancelling the stop of an open position says so on the panel, so you don’t leave a position without one by accident.

Only the tags take the mouse. Everywhere else the chart works as usual.

The Tag Menu

Right-click a tag for its menu: Change quantity, Split off…, Attach to indicator… (or Detach), Move this stop to break-even and Cancel. Anything that doesn’t apply to that order is greyed, with the reason in the item (for example “a stop or target: use Split”). The right-click belongs to the tag: NinjaTrader’s chart menu doesn’t open.

Right-click menu on a stop order tag: split off, attach to another indicator, detach, move this stop to break-even, cancel
The tag menu on a stop that follows the EMA.

Changing the Quantity

Click the number on a tag (or choose Change quantity in its menu). A small box opens at the tag: use − / +, the mouse wheel, the arrow keys or type the size. Enter or ✓ sends it; Esc, ✕ or clicking away leaves the order as it was.

  • Adding contracts is checked by PAT Risk Manager first, like a new order for the difference.
  • An entry with an ATM is placed again with the new quantity and the same ATM, once your broker confirms the old one is cancelled. Its place in the queue starts again.
  • A stop or target changes size by splitting it.

Splitting an Order (Scaling Out)

Any tag of 2 or more contracts can be split, so you can scale out at more than one price.

  • Shift+drag the tag to take 1 contract to a new price. Turn the mouse wheel while dragging to take more or fewer; the copy reads 3 of 9.
  • Or right-click the tag, choose Split off…, enter how many contracts, then click the price where they go.

What the part becomes:

  • A stop or target: its bracket gets smaller, and the part gets a stop and a target of its own (one cancels the other). Whichever fills first, every contract still has its stop. Example: long 10 with Target1 9 and Stop1 9. Split 3 off the target to a higher price and you have Target1 6 / Stop1 6, plus a 3-lot target with its own 3-lot stop.
  • An entry with an ATM: a new entry with the same ATM, so it gets its own stop and target when it fills.
  • Any other order: the same order at the new price.

The part is sent only once your broker confirms the smaller order, so the two never count together against an account’s contract limit. A tag that holds several orders (for example an ATM’s two stops at one price) splits by order instead: Shift+drag moves its last one.

  • A split part’s stop and target are its own: the ATM’s auto break-even and trailing don’t move them.
  • Stop-limit orders can’t be split yet.
A NinjaTrader ATM target split to scale out: 4 contracts moved from T1 to a new target T3, with their own stop
4 contracts split off T1 to a new target, with their own stop.

Combining Tags

Drag a tag onto another of the same kind (both stops, both targets, both buy limits and so on) and it snaps to that price (joins 2 STOP). Release, and they share one tag.

Attaching an Order to an Indicator

A stop or target can follow an indicator on the chart, for example 10 ticks under an EMA.

  • Ctrl+drag the tag: the copy snaps to the nearest indicator line on the price panel (attach to EMA(20)). Release with Ctrl still held.
  • Or right-click the tag and choose Attach to indicator…, then pick the indicator line, an offset in ticks (−10 is 10 ticks below it, +6 is 6 above) and Trail.

How it follows:

  • The order moves to the indicator plus the offset at once, then follows the indicator’s latest value. An indicator calculated on bar close changes once per bar, so the order moves once per bar too.
  • Trail (on by default for a stop): the order only moves toward the market, never away, so a stop only tightens. Without Trail it follows both ways.
  • A stop or target never follows the indicator through the market. It waits where it is, and the tag says held, until the indicator is back on the right side.
  • The tag shows what it follows: ⚓ EMA(20) −2.50 pt · trail.
  • To stop following, drag the order or choose Detach. The order stays where it is. Removing the indicator does the same.
  • An attachment ends when NinjaTrader restarts, the chart window closes or the chart switches to another instrument. The order simply stays where it was.

Break-Even on One Stop

Right-click a stop and choose Move this stop to break-even to move just that stop. The panel’s B/E button moves every stop.

Turning Them On

Right-click the panel’s Account row and choose PAT lines. There’s nothing to set up, and it works on a market replay too.

How it works: NinjaTrader draws its lines for the account its own Chart Trader shows, and has no switch to turn them off. So PAT Chart Trader points NinjaTrader’s hidden Chart Trader at an account of its own, PAT Lines, which is never connected and never appears in any account list, and the panel trades your account as usual. (Before 1.5.2 this needed an empty Sim account you made yourself. You can delete that account now.)
To go back, right-click the Account row and choose NinjaTrader's lines. Both choices apply to every chart.

Points or Ticks

Distances on the lines and in the order preview read in points by default (+4.00 pts). Right-click the Account row and choose Distances in ticks to see ticks (+16t) instead.

Good to Know

  • While PAT lines are on, NinjaTrader’s own order tools that use its Chart Trader account (its order hotkeys and the chart’s right-click order menu) send nothing. Use the panel, or its own hotkeys, to trade.
  • Next Bar Entry (2.4.2 or later) trades the account, ATM and quantity shown in the panel.
  • Uninstalling the add-on, or choosing NinjaTrader's lines, puts NinjaTrader’s Chart Trader back on your account.

8. Placing Orders

Every order button shows exactly what it will send before you click, and its label updates as the price moves.

Buy / Sell Market

A market order for the quantity shown, with the ATM if one is chosen.

Drag to the Chart

Press the Buy or Sell chip, move onto the chart and release over the price you want. While you drag, the chip shows what releasing there will send, for example Buy Limit 7741.25. The order type depends on where you drop:

  • Buy below the market: Buy Limit (or Buy MIT with MIT selected).
  • Buy above the market: Buy Stop.
  • Sell above the market: Sell Limit (or Sell MIT with MIT selected).
  • Sell below the market: Sell Stop.

Releasing anywhere other than over the chart, or pressing Esc, sends nothing.

Limit / MIT Switch

The switch beside “Drag to the chart” decides what a drop on the limit side sends. A limit fills at your price or better, but can be missed if the market only touches it. An MIT (market if touched) becomes a market order once the price trades there, so it fills, possibly a tick or two away. The choice is remembered per instrument.

Join the Bid / Ask

Buy Limit joins the bid and Sell Limit joins the ask. Offset places the order that many ticks behind the bid or ask (0 to 100). With Offset 2, the buy goes 2 ticks below the bid.

Order Details

  • Prices are rounded to the instrument’s tick size.
  • Orders go out as day orders.
  • Clicks on the same order button within half a second of each other count as one click, so a double click sends one order. Pause for half a second and the button sends again.

Orders Against Your Position With an ATM Chosen

An ATM only goes on an order that opens or adds to a position. An order the other way (for example, selling while long) goes out without the ATM and is cut to the size of your position, so it can only close. If the position closes some other way before that order fills, for example because its stop is hit, the panel cancels the order within a second and tells you. With ATM None, orders go out exactly as you size them. To turn around and keep an ATM, use Reverse.

9. Hotkeys

PAT Chart Trader Settings window: license status and order hotkeys
Settings: your license, order hotkeys, and the version and Uninstall in the footer.

Set your own keys in Settings > Order hotkeys: click a box, press the keys (for example Ctrl+Shift+B, F5 or 1), and it’s saved. Backspace clears a box. One set of keys works on every chart. None are set until you set them. Hotkeys are in both editions.

  • Buy Market / Sell Market: the Buy / Sell Market button.
  • Buy at the mouse / Sell at the mouse: the same as dragging the Buy / Sell chip to the price under the mouse: a limit or a stop depending on where that price is against the market (and the Limit / MIT switch). With the mouse not over the chart’s prices, nothing is sent and the panel says so.
  • Buy Bid (Join) / Sell Ask (Join): the Join buttons, with the Offset.
  • Flatten: the Flatten button.
  • Cancel orders: the Cancel button. Working orders are cancelled; a held position’s stop and target stay.

Good to know:

  • A hotkey works in the chart window you’re in, while the panel is shown, and goes through the same risk check as the button.
  • Holding a key down sends one order. Nothing fires while you type in a box (the quantity, NinjaTrader’s instrument search): click the chart first.
  • A key you set belongs to the panel: NinjaTrader doesn’t also act on it.
  • A key can belong to one hotkey only. Set it for another and the window moves it there and says so.

10. Managing a Position

The position card shows Flat, Long 2 or Short 1, the average price and the open P&L. Click the P&L figure to cycle its units through dollars, ticks or points (per contract, measured from the average price to the last price).

  • Close 1: closes one contract at the market.
  • Close N: closes half the position at the market, rounded down. The label shows how many (Close 2 on a 4-lot). On a 1-lot it closes it.
  • Flatten: closes the position in this instrument and cancels its orders.
  • B/E: moves the position’s stop(s) to the entry price, rounded to the tick in your favour. It only acts once the market is past the entry, so the stop cannot fill immediately. It works with an ATM’s stop or one you placed.
  • Reverse: closes the position, then opens a new one of equal size in the opposite direction, using the ATM chosen above. The new entry goes through the risk check first.
  • Cancel N: cancels this instrument’s working orders on this account. While you hold a position, its stop and target stay in place. Flatten removes everything.

Close 1, Close N and Flatten never close more than you hold. While an ATM manages the position, a partial close is handed to the ATM and the panel trims the stop and target to the remaining size. A stop or target left working after the position closes is cancelled within a second.

Flatten, Close 1, Close N and Cancel always work, even without a license and even when the risk check is refusing new orders.

After B/E, the message line confirms where the stop was moved.

11. Risk Checks With PAT Risk Manager

When PAT Risk Manager (part of PAT Trade Suite) watches the selected account, every new entry from the panel is checked against the Risk Manager’s own rules before it is sent. There is nothing to configure twice: the panel reads the same limits and locks, and a change in the Risk Manager applies to the panel at once.

  • Over the contract cap: the entry is reduced to the size your cap still allows (Sent 1 of 2: max 2 contracts of MES 12-26) and, when there is no room at all, refused. No order over the limit is placed.
  • Account locked, for example during a post-loss cooldown: nothing is sent, and the message gives the reason and how long the lock has left.
  • Reducing orders are never refused. Close, Flatten and orders against the position always go through.
  • Orders that PAT Risk Manager cancels show in red on the panel, so you see what was removed and why.

The Badge

  • Risk checks on · PAT Risk Manager: entries from the panel are checked before they are sent.
  • No badge: PAT Risk Manager is not installed or does not watch this account. The panel works as a plain chart trader.
  • Risk checks off: update PAT Risk Manager: the installed PAT Risk Manager is too old for the check. Update PAT Trade Suite.
  • Risk checks unavailable: orders are refused: the check failed to run. New entries are refused until it works again; closing orders still work.

Scope

Orders placed from this panel, including with its own hotkeys, are checked before they are sent. Orders from NinjaTrader’s other order windows (SuperDOM, Basic Entry, NinjaTrader’s own order hotkeys, strategies, charts without this panel) are covered by PAT Risk Manager’s usual checks after they are placed.

12. Panel Messages

The message line under the order buttons explains what happened. It stays until your next action or until you click its ×.

  • Refused: <reason>: the risk check did not allow the entry (for example a contract cap, or an account lock with its time left). Nothing was sent.
  • Sent 1 of 3: <reason>: the entry was cut down to what the risk rules allow, and the smaller order was sent.
  • Sent without the ATM: this order closes your position.: an order against your position went out without the ATM so nothing is left behind.
  • Sent 1 to close your position, without the ATM. Use Reverse to turn around with the ATM.: the order was bigger than your position, so only the closing part was sent.
  • Cancelled your closing order: the position closed before it filled.: your position closed some other way first, so the panel removed the closing order before it could open a new position.
  • Stop moved to break-even <price>: B/E moved the stop.
  • Not yet: the price is not past the entry …: B/E would have filled the stop at once, so nothing was changed.
  • No stop to move: B/E found no stop protecting the position.
  • The stop is already at break-even or better: nothing to move.
  • Reverse stopped: …: the position did not close in time, or the new entry was refused after closing. The message says which. You are flat or still in the old position, never doubled.
  • Waiting for a price from the market. / Waiting for a bid and ask from the market.: no market data yet (not connected, or the market is closed).
  • Not licensed: …: no active license on this machine. New orders are not sent; Flatten, Close and Cancel still work.
  • Not sent: <error>: NinjaTrader refused the order, with NinjaTrader’s own reason.
  • Saved <ATM> to preset 3.: an ATM preset now holds that ATM (Pro).
  • ATM for your next entry: <ATM>.: you clicked a preset with a position open; the running ATM keeps its stop and target.
  • Not saved: this ATM is not a saved template.: a Custom ATM can’t be saved to a preset; save it as a template first.
  • Not found: the ATM template '<name>' is no longer in NinjaTrader.: the preset’s template was deleted or renamed. Right-click the preset to replace or clear it.

Every order the panel sends is also written to NinjaTrader’s log as PATChartTrader: <account>: sent ….

13. Short Chart Windows

When the full panel would take more than half of the chart window’s height (a laptop screen, or a window split in two), Drag to the chart and Join the bid / ask fold into one strip under the Buy / Sell buttons. The strip shows what is folded, for example Drag · Join · Limit · Offset 0. Click it to unfold, and again to fold.

Everything else stays on screen, so Close, Flatten and Cancel never need scrolling, and the rest of the Chart Trader column stays free for other panels such as Next Bar Entry. On a taller window there is no strip. It is automatic: resize the window and the panel follows.

14. What Is Remembered

Account, ATM, quantity, the join Offset, the Limit / MIT choice, the P&L units, your ATM presets and the order preview switch are saved per instrument (ES, MES, NQ and so on) whenever they change. They come back when a chart of that instrument opens, including after a restart and across contract rolls. Two charts of the same instrument share them. The order lines choices (NinjaTrader’s lines or PAT’s, points or ticks, and the tags’ distance) and the hotkeys are one setting for all charts.

The settings file is Documents\NinjaTrader 8\PATChartTrader\panel-settings.xml.

15. Licensing and Activation

  • One license per machine. A purchased license is lifetime: it never expires, and every update is included.
  • Edition: your key is Basic or Pro. The Settings window shows it (Licensed: Pro), and so does the panel’s header (Pro · v1.6.2). An upgrade to Pro reaches the panel at its next license check, or at once with Check now. If a key ever goes back to Basic, its presets are kept and return with Pro.
  • Activate: click Settings in the panel’s footer, paste the key and click Activate. Activation needs an internet connection.
  • Machine ID: the Settings window shows this computer’s Machine ID, with a Copy button, for license and support requests.
  • Move to another computer: click Deactivate in the Settings window on the old computer (or choose Uninstall and deactivate when you uninstall), then activate on the new one.
  • Check now refreshes the license status immediately.
  • Without an active license the footer shows Not licensed · Activate and the panel sends no new orders. Flatten, Close and Cancel always work, so you can always exit a trade.

Want to try it first? The PAT Chart Trader free trial gives you everything in Pro for 7 days.

16. Common Fixes

The Panel Does Not Show

Show Chart Trader on the chart (toolbar button or right-click > Chart Trader). The panel appears wherever NinjaTrader’s Chart Trader would. If it still does not, check that the import finished and that NinjaTrader was restarted.

Order Buttons Are Greyed Out

No account is selected or connected, or there is no market data yet. The message line says which.

“Not Licensed”

Open Settings, check the key, then click Activate or Check now. Activation needs an internet connection.

The Risk Badge Is Missing

PAT Risk Manager does not watch this account, or PAT Trade Suite is not installed. The panel still works, without risk checks.

Typed Numbers Open NinjaTrader’s Instrument Box

Click into the quantity box first. While it has focus, keystrokes go to the panel.

Another Add-On’s Panel Disappeared

It should not: only NinjaTrader’s own Chart Trader controls are hidden. Please report it to support with the add-on’s name.

Reporting a Problem

Include the version from the panel’s header, the Machine ID from the Settings window, and NinjaTrader’s log for the day (Documents\NinjaTrader 8\log).

17. Uninstall

PAT Chart Trader uninstalls in one click, from the Settings window.

  1. Click Settings at the bottom of the panel, then Uninstall PAT Chart Trader....
  2. Choose Uninstall and deactivate (frees your license for another machine) or Uninstall only.
  3. Close NinjaTrader and start it again. NinjaTrader’s own Chart Trader is back on every chart.

The files are removed when NinjaTrader closes, by a small window that waits for it (minimized in the taskbar). It also puts NinjaTrader’s Chart Trader back on your account if PAT lines were on.

Your settings stay in Documents\NinjaTrader 8\PATChartTrader in case you reinstall. Delete that folder if you won’t. A record of what the uninstall did is in uninstall.log in the same folder.

Uninstall by Hand

If the add-on does not load, so the Settings window can’t be opened, remove it by hand. To use your key on another machine afterwards, click Deactivate in the Settings window first if you can.

  1. In NinjaTrader, open New > NinjaScript Editor, right-click in the editor, choose References, and remove the four PATChartTrader entries.
  2. Close NinjaTrader.
  3. Delete Documents\NinjaTrader 8\bin\Custom\AddOns\PATChartTraderAddOn.cs.
  4. Delete PATChartTrader.Core.dll, PATChartTrader.Licensing.dll, PATChartTrader.NT8.dll and PATChartTrader.UI.dll from Documents\NinjaTrader 8\bin\Custom.
  5. Start NinjaTrader. NinjaTrader’s own Chart Trader comes back on every chart.

18. FAQ

What’s the Difference Between Basic and Pro?

Pro adds ATM presets (buttons that switch ATM and size in one click), the order preview (the entry, stop, targets and risk drawn on the chart before you click) and order lines (clean order and position lines on the chart: drag to move, × to cancel, split to scale out, combine, change quantity and attach to an indicator). Everything else is in both editions.

Can I Start With Basic and Upgrade Later?

Yes. Your key is moved to Pro and the panel picks it up within 5 minutes, or at once with Check now in the Settings window. Same key, no reinstall, no restart.

What Happens to My Presets If My Key Goes Back to Basic?

They are kept, just not shown, and come back as they were with Pro.

Does the Order Preview Send Anything?

No. It only draws on the chart. Nothing is sent until you click, and with PAT Risk Manager the preview shows its answer without sending an order to ask.

Does NinjaTrader’s Right-Click Order Menu Still Work?

Yes (with Pro’s order lines on, it sends nothing; see Order Lines), and it uses the account, ATM template and quantity shown in the panel (a Custom ATM set up in the panel applies to the panel’s own orders only). Orders from that menu are not checked before sending; PAT Risk Manager’s usual checks still apply after they are placed.

Can I Trade With Hotkeys?

Yes, with the panel’s own: set them in Settings > Order hotkeys (Buy / Sell Market, at the mouse, join the bid / ask, Flatten, Cancel). They’re checked like the buttons. NinjaTrader’s own order hotkeys aren’t checked before sending, and with Pro’s order lines on they send nothing. See Hotkeys.

Can I Still Drag Orders on the Chart?

Yes. NinjaTrader’s own order and position lines stay on the chart and can be dragged as usual. With Pro’s order lines on, you drag PAT Chart Trader’s tags instead (see Order Lines).

Can I Scale Out of Part of a Position at a Price?

Yes, with Pro’s order lines: Shift+drag the target (turn the mouse wheel for more contracts), or right-click it and choose Split off…. The part keeps its own stop. See Splitting an Order.

Can a Stop Follow an Indicator?

Yes, with Pro’s order lines: Ctrl+drag the stop onto the indicator, or right-click it and choose Attach to indicator…, with an offset in ticks and Trail. See Attaching an Order to an Indicator.

Will My Other Chart Trader Add-Ons Still Show?

Yes. PAT Chart Trader hides just NinjaTrader’s built-in order controls; anything another add-on adds to the Chart Trader column remains.

What Happens When I Close a Chart or Remove the Add-On?

The panel is removed with the chart. When the add-on is uninstalled, NinjaTrader’s own Chart Trader comes back.

How Do I Uninstall It?

Click Settings at the bottom of the panel, then Uninstall PAT Chart Trader..., and restart NinjaTrader. You can deactivate your license in the same step, to use it on another computer. See Uninstall.

Does It Work on Prop-Firm Accounts?

Yes. The panel places standard NinjaTrader orders on whichever connected account you select, including prop-firm accounts where NinjaTrader’s own Risk setting has been removed.
