Advanced Second Entry Documentation

Advanced Second Entry Documentation covers installation, licensing, chart setup, default settings, Chart Trader integration, and common troubleshooting. Use this page as a task-based reference so you can get configured quickly and come back to the exact section you need later.

Video Walkthrough

If you want to see the indicator in action before working through setup, watch the walkthrough below and then use the sections below as a task-based reference.

1. Install and Open Advanced Second Entry

Install

  1. In NinjaTrader, go to Tools > Import > NinjaScript Add-On.
  2. Select the Advanced Second Entry ZIP package.
  3. Complete the import and allow NinjaTrader to compile if prompted.
  4. Restart NinjaTrader if required.

Where to Find It

After import, the indicator appears under Indicators > PriceActionTools > Advanced Second Entry.

Licensing Window

The licensing window can be opened from Control Center > New > Advanced Second Entry License.

If the indicator is unlicensed and no key is configured, the license window now opens automatically when the indicator is loaded so new users know where to activate it.

2. First-Run Checklist

Recommended First-Run Steps

  1. Open the licensing window and confirm your Machine ID is visible.
  2. Activate your license key if you already have one.
  3. Add Advanced Second Entry to a chart.
  4. Review the default settings before saving any indicator templates.
  5. Confirm your chart and Chart Trader workflow behave the way you expect.

Current Default Behavior

As of March 27, 2026, the current defaults are:

  • Calculate = OnEachTick
  • Only Show Second Entries = true
  • Reset On Equal High / Low = true

If NinjaTrader still shows older values, you are likely loading a saved indicator template or workspace state rather than the current script defaults.

3. Add Advanced Second Entry to a Chart

  1. Right-click a chart and choose Indicators.
  2. Select Advanced Second Entry.
  3. Confirm the Input Series.
  4. Review Calculate and other settings.
  5. Click OK.

Recommended Chart Check

  • Confirm second-entry markers are appearing where expected.
  • Confirm the chart is updating intrabar if you rely on live bar behavior.
  • Confirm the chart stays readable with your current template and instrument.

4. Indicator Overview

Advanced Second Entry is designed to help discretionary traders see valid second-entry price action more clearly without replacing judgment.

What It Identifies

  • Second Entry Long (2EL)
  • Second Entry Short (2ES)
  • optional Higher Low (HL) and Lower High (LH) context

What It Does Not Do

  • it does not automate entries
  • it does not make trade decisions for you
  • it does not remove the need for context, location, and risk management

5. Core Settings

Behavior

  • Only Show Second Entries filters out non-second-entry signals and keeps the chart cleaner
  • Entry Markers Only is for attach-only workflows where you want to use the marker for Chart Trader without using the full indicator display
  • Strict Signal Bars restricts signals to stronger signal-bar conditions
  • Reset On Equal High / Low changes how equal highs and lows affect the structural reset
  • Break Offset (Ticks) adjusts how the signal break level is interpreted

Appearance

  • Show Order Entry Marker displays the diamond marker used for order attachment
  • Order Entry Marker Bars Forward projects the entry marker ahead of the current bar
  • Show HL / LH Markers adds structure labels for context
  • Label Offset (Ticks) moves labels vertically
  • Label Background Opacity controls readability versus chart visibility
  • Reposition Labels On Current Bar helps keep the live bar from running over the label while the current bar is still forming

Colors

  • Color Theme is a one-click preset (Control Room, Slate Dark, Light, Sepia, Clean Gray, or Custom) that sets label, line, target, and stop colors together for the chart background you are using
  • Long Brush, Short Brush, Label Background Brush, Entry Line Brush, Stop Line Brush, and Target Line Brush are manual color pickers, only used when Color Theme is set to Custom

New to a chart or switching between a light and dark workspace? Set Color Theme first – no other color edits needed. Control Room is the default and matches the original dark look. Click any image to open the lightbox viewer.

Also available: Slate Dark, Sepia, and Clean Gray. These five presets share their palette with NT Risk Manager’s dashboard themes, so both add-ons read as one family across your workspace.

Projection

  • Projection Bars Forward controls how far projections extend
  • Target (Ticks) sets the default target distance used by projection logic

Alerts

  • Alerts Enabled turns alerts on or off
  • Alert Sound selects the sound used for valid signal alerts

6. Chart Trader Integration

Advanced Second Entry is designed to work naturally with Chart Trader for discretionary execution.

How to Attach Orders

  1. Open Chart Trader.
  2. Right-click the chart and choose Attach to indicator.
  3. Select Advanced Second Entry.
  4. Choose Second Entry Long or Second Entry Short, depending on the side you want to attach to.
  5. Enable Show Order Entry Marker if needed so the diamond attach point is visible on the chart.

Useful Setups

Clean Execution Setup

  • enable Show Order Entry Marker
  • enable Entry Markers Only
  • leave Only Show Second Entries enabled

Full-Context Setup

  • disable Entry Markers Only
  • enable Show HL / LH Markers
  • enable Strict Signal Bars if you want more selective confirmations

7. Licensing and Activation

Advanced Second Entry uses machine-ID-based licensing.

Activation Flow

  1. Open Control Center > New > Advanced Second Entry License.
  2. Copy the Machine ID if you need to send it to support.
  3. Paste your license key into the top field.
  4. Click Activate.
  5. Use Check anytime to re-validate the current machine.

What the Window Shows

  • your license key field
  • your Machine ID
  • current license status
  • expiration information when applicable

The licensing window shows the key field, Machine ID, status, validation buttons, and the manual menu path if users need to reopen it later.

If the License Window Does Not Open Automatically

  • open it manually from Control Center > New > Advanced Second Entry License
  • confirm the AddOn licensing files imported correctly
  • restart NinjaTrader after import if needed

8. Saved Templates and Old Defaults

NinjaTrader can restore older indicator values from saved templates or workspace state.

If Defaults Look Wrong

  • remove the indicator from the chart
  • check whether a saved indicator template is being applied
  • delete the saved Advanced Second Entry indicator template under Documents/NinjaTrader 8/templates/Indicator/
  • add a fresh instance of the indicator again

This is the most common reason a user still sees an older Calculate mode or older checkbox state after updating the script.

9. Common Fixes

No Markers Appearing

  • confirm you added the indicator to the correct chart
  • confirm the current market structure actually has qualifying setups
  • confirm Only Show Second Entries and Strict Signal Bars are not filtering more than expected

The Chart Feels Too Busy

  • enable Only Show Second Entries
  • enable Entry Markers Only
  • reduce other context markers until the chart matches your workflow

Chart Trader Orders Are Not Attaching

  • confirm you right-clicked the chart, chose Attach to indicator, selected Advanced Second Entry, and then picked Second Entry Long or Second Entry Short
  • confirm Show Order Entry Marker is enabled
  • confirm the entry marker is visible on the chart

Calculate Is Still Showing On Bar Close

  • check for a saved indicator template
  • remove the old template and add the indicator fresh
  • the current script forces OnEachTick at runtime, but old saved UI values can still appear before the template is cleared

License Status Is Missing or Inactive

  • open the licensing window manually
  • click Check
  • confirm the Machine ID is correct
  • contact support if the machine has changed or the key needs to be reassigned

10. FAQ

Is Advanced Second Entry an Automated Strategy?

No. In the current version, Advanced Second Entry is a discretionary indicator, not an automated trading strategy. It helps identify second-entry structure and can improve chart-based execution, but it does not place trades for you today. We do have plans to add an automated strategy version in an upcoming release.

Does This Indicator Tell Me When to Take a Trade?

By itself, Advanced Second Entry helps identify the setup, but the trade decision is still based on your rules and discretion. If you want help pulling the trigger without hesitation, emotion, or bad last-second decisions, it pairs naturally with Next Bar Entry, which can automate the actual next-bar execution once the setup is confirmed.

What Does Entry Markers Only Do?

This is for attach-only Chart Trader use, not normal indicator use. It hides the extra labels and context so Advanced Second Entry can act purely as an order-attachment source on the chart.

What Does Strict Signal Bars Do?

This filters the second-entry labels to stronger signal bars only. For longs, the signal bar needs to close strongly near its high. For shorts, it needs to close strongly near its low.

What Does Reset On Equal High / Low Do?

This controls whether an equal high or equal low counts as a reset in the setup. If it is enabled, equal highs and lows can reset the count. If it is disabled, the indicator waits for a clearer break beyond the prior extreme before resetting.

Can I Use This on Any Market, Timeframe, or Bar Type?

Yes, you can use it on any market, timeframe, or bar type supported by NinjaTrader. That said, how useful the signals are will still depend on the instrument, the bar type, and how well the chart matches your trading style.

What Does Reposition Labels On Current Bar Do?

Since the label is printed while the bar is still forming, the bar can sometimes run over the label. This setting repositions the label as the current bar moves so it stays easier to read.

What Does Show 2nd Entry Debug Mean?

This was an internal troubleshooting option used while testing part of the second-entry logic. Most users do not need it, and it will likely be removed in a future version to keep the settings cleaner.
